Reverend Andrew Buchanan arrived in Bunbury in 1866 as a missionary to spearhead a more assertive Congregational Church. He had an abrasive personality which delivered him a cool reception in the wider community.
Buchanan was Bunbury’s first Congregational Clergyman and was appointed Chairman of the Bunbury School Board in 1871, a position he held for 50 years.
Reverend Buchanan is interred with his wife, Catharine and daughter Mary in the Bunbury General Cemetery.
